holistic Diagnostics

holistic medicine in Berlin

At Praxis Lemm, we focus on holistic medicine where we start with our clients by conducting a thorough examination of our clients’ health to find out the root cause of their medical issues. Instead of only treating the symptoms that are arising from the medical issue, we always want to find out the core cause of the problems so we can treat and cure it well.

All the diagnostic procedures used at Praxis Lemm are carefully selected by Dr. Vesna Lemm who sees the importance of diagnostic procedures,  and as a doctor does not only want to get rid of your symptoms but also cure the core problem causing them.

holistic and functional medicine diagnostic

observation and examination of the body

At our clinic, we acknowledge the importance of careful observation.

Various medical schools teach how to examine the body only in terms of the Western medicine. However, it is not until doctors start their real work at medical clinics when they start gaining experience of certain medical conditions and symptoms. Since Dr. Lemm has been working as a midwife and doctor for over 35 years, she has gained a broad understanding and knowledge about a great deal of medical issues that she is often able to detect by just observing the body.

Traditional chinese medicine

TCM pulse and tongue diagnostics are the most important tools TCM doctors use. At our clinic, we have a therapist who specializes in these techniques. It is fascinating how much we can detect about a person’s overall health by examining their tongue. Pulse diagnostics is indeed a very important and powerful diagnostic tool.

heart rate variability and veda pulse

Our heart can reveal a great deal of information, we just have to be able to closely listen to it and interpret it.

Explanation + meaning

Well-functioning neurovegetative regulation is the key to our health and well-being. Our heart rate is controlled by the two opponents sympathetic (stress nerve) and the parasympathetic (resting nerve). The state of the neurovegetative regulation can be recognized by the change in the chronological sequence of individual heartbeats, the so-called heart rate variability (HRV).

Above all, our “inner brake”, the parasympathetic nervous system with its main nerve, the nerve vagus, can optimally regulate the processes inside the body. A powerful parasympathetic leads to a close coupling of breathing and heart rate. Link to Veda Plus.

Application + effect

Just as a good coupling suggests a healthy parasympathetic nervous system, a lack of the coupling of breathing and heartbeat is a clear indication of insufficient parasympathetic activity. Our parasympathetic nervous system is sensitive to harmful influences. Chronic stress, lack of exercise, an unfavorable lifestyle and various diseases lead to “parasympathetic dysfunction”. If this malfunction of the parasympathetic system lasts longer, health suffers. There is now reasonable evidence that a weakness of the parasympathetic nervous system is causally related to the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Several scientific studies have shown that complex positive emotional reactions, such as Love, joy, etc., are linked with healthy heart beat and breathing rhythm, whilst negative reactions such as stress, anger and fear go hand in hand with an increased release of stress hormones.

Procedure + methodology

Various biofeedback methods and devices have been developed in recent decades to measure changes in the heartbeat. Special focus was placed on the parallel measurement of heart and breathing in order to determine the degree of deviation.

Bioimpedance Measurements Analysis (bia)

Sometimes, even if your body seems fine from the outside, there may be internal issues that are hard to detect by looking at your body externally. At our practice, we use a Bioimpedance measurement to thoroughly determine the health of your body .This method shows the distribution of the different body components (body fat, muscle mass and water retention), and your personal level of nourishment which indicates the membranous tension of your muscle cells. If the tension level is low, the cells are malnourished. After receiving your results, we can enhance the function of your cells by changing your diet in an optimal way. For example, when results show too little muscle mass, we recommend for you to practice a combination of correct nutrition and appropriate amount of daily exercise.

During the weight loss process, the Bioimpendance measurement will show whether the fatty tissue reduces, or whether there is a loss in the muscle mass which can be one cause for the yo-yo effect. At Praxis Lemm, you will get a tailored calculation of the recommended carbohydrate, fat and protein intake, so you can balance out your diet and thus reduce your weight successfully in the long run.

ayurvedic pulse diagnostics

This diagnostic is very similar to TCM pulse diagnostics, but a comprehensive Ayurvedic pulse diagnostics can also recognize parasites which TCM can’t do. Additionally, the DOSHA activities can be very helpful. Ayurvedic pulse diagnostics at Praxis Lemm is available depending on the days our Ayurvedic therapist is working at our clinic.

bioscan

The Bioscan is an alternative diagnostic measurement method which measures the radiating wave frequency (bioresonance) of the body and thus reveals the vitamin and nutrient status of the body as well as the status of each organ.

Most therapists like therapists at Praxis Lemm use Bioscan as a guiding diagnostic tool. At our clinic, we combine bioscan with other diagnostic methods and samples such as Oligoscan, urine samples and blood samples. However, bioscan is not yet recognized in orthodox medicine.

At our clinic, we have reached great results using this method and have also used it along with pesticides and organic toxins parameters. Toxin loads can be responsible for the development of many diseases.

The best evidence of the efficiency of this method has been obtained after many years of experience of using the following parameters:

  • Amino acids, e.g. tryptophan with tendency for morning tiredness, depression.
  • Pesticides / Chemical toxins in body.
  • Heavy metals toxication.
  • Vaginal infections.
  • Trace elements.
  • Blood sugar.
  •  Fatty liver.
  • Vitamins.
  •  Minerals.

If Bioscan is showing extremely high levels of mercury, arsenic, cadmium or other heavy metals, we will conduct further examininations such as Oligoscan or urine provocation, chelation diagnostics.

urine heavy metals panel

At Praxis Lemm, we examine heavy metals in urine, blood and tissue with Oligoscan SO Check. The following heavy metals: aluminum, barium, lead, cesium, gadolinium, cadmium, nickel, platinum, mercury, thallium, strontium, tin, zirconium are the most common heavy metals found in the human body and we have over a decade of experience with chelation. Since Dr Lemm has cured herself from heavy metals with chelation therapy, she is very passionate and experienced at using this therapy.

vaginal microbiome / flora

Medical studies have revealed that an infection of the vaginal area can cause premature contractions, premature preterm rupture of the foetal membrane and can cause premature birth. You can prevent this from happening, if you have get your vaginal status checked at our practice. This test is completely covered by all health insurances.

A vaginal flora test as detailed as ours is rarely done by gynecologists and is usually not free. If you suffer from pain or irritation around your genital area or cystitis, I recommend having this examination done as soon as possible. With a vaginal status, the physiological flora (lactobacilli and pH-value) of the vagina is tested and the presence of infection-causing germs can be determined or excluded. B Streptococci, which can harm the baby during birth, are one kind of germs that could be found for example. If the physiological flora is lowered, it can be built-up by lactobacilli-suppositories.

Gut microbiome / flora

The intestine and the intestinal flora together form the biggest immune organ of the body. The term “gut flora” summarizes innumerable bacteria adhering to the intestinal wall. The various species form a community in equilibrium. In a healthy body, they help to repel attacks from external and pathogenic agents. A disturbed balance between healthy and harmful bacteria is called Dysbiosis, as described in scientific studies. If the quality and quantity of the gut flora is destroyed by antibiotics, stress, diet or other circumstances, it can increase the sensitivity to:

  • Infections (respiratory tract, bladder, etc).
  • Allergies (respiratory tract, skin and bowel).
  • The irritable bowel syndrome (flatulence, constipation, diarrhea).

A stool sample is used to investigate the state of your intestinal flora in a special laboratory. The lab will submit us a detailed report, displaying a panel of all ‘good’ expressed in the gut. After evaluating the report, we will provide you with a well-matched immunotherapy with probiotics. Probiotics are healthy bacteria normally present in a healthy intestine. It is taken in the form of powder, drops or capsules. and rebuilds and strengths the intestinal flora and thereby supports the whole immune system. It is a protracted therapy and often expands over months but, considered in the long run, very successful. It is also appropriate for all; adults, children, toddlers and babies.

saliva stress panel

One of the most accurate tests used for measuring stress hormones nowadays is saliva stress panel. It is done by taking saliva samples a few times a day, measuring how our stress hormone levels change throughout the day.

urine test

Urine tests are very simple to conduct and administer and are often used at Praxis Lemm. Usually, these tests detect bacteria in the urine. In urinary tract infection, we do not recommend using antibiotics if it is not acute. However, if antibiotics are needed, we want to first examine which antibiotics are appropriate to use with the specific bacteria in your urine.

Additionally, hormones and a lot of metabolic substance can be seen in the urine tests.

blood testing

Blood the most important fluid of the body. The most medical diagnostics and therapies are done by sampling the blood. However, although the blood is very important, we should not forget that the blood is not always giving us the 100% true information about the entire body. Additionally, in the blood we have different compounds and, for example, the level of minerals in the blood cells are not the same as outside of the cells in the blood compound called serum or plasma. Keeping this in mind, the information in the blood are powerful and useful.

Check below all the tests we offer in our clinic.

VitaCellscan / oligoscan

VitaCellScan/ Oligoscan is a diagnostic method of the well-tried spectral photometry and is applied on the human skin as a light beam with different beam qualities. The different beam qualities are explained according to the existing content of minerals or heavy metals in the tissue. Spectral photometry has been used for a very long time in laboratory medicine, chemistry and pharmacy. Therefore, it is a scientifically recognized procedure. However, VitaCellScan/ Oligoscan in this form (used on the living body) is a procedure not yet recognized by conventional medicine.

Dr. Vesna Lemm reports:

“I have had excellent experiences with the VitaCellScan/ Oligoscan and use this method as one of the most important parts of my holistic diagnostics, thus measuring minerals and heavy metals in the skin. You just have to be aware that the VitaCellScan/ Oligoscan is “only” measuring the hand . That means it is measured through the bone, muscle, and intra- and extracellular components. In addition, I usually send urine and blood samples to the laboratory very often with this measurement.

Since I perform an VitaCellScan/ Oligoscan test accompanying the heavy metal eliminations, the side effects of the chelates have been reduced to a minimum. As an accompanying diagnostic method, especially with chelation therapy, I would highly recommend this procedure.”

A necessary component of maintaining body resiliency and enabling adequate recovery from the disease is a sufficient supply of all nutrients and minerals. After all, it is not possible to build or renovate a house without proper building materials. The biggest challenge, however, is to know which nutrients are deficient and may hinder the body’s optimal self-regulation. Diagnostic measurements are usually only carried out measuring blood, urine, and hair, but it is not known whether these lab values correctly correlate with concentrations at the cellular level, where diseases ultimately develop. Additionally, the presence of toxins and heavy metals in the body can also be responsible for the development of a disease. It has been estimated that 80% of all chronic diseases are caused or intensified by heavy metal poisoning.

 What does Oligoscan assess?

  1.   Minerals and trace elements that are necessary for the body. Rarely these are too high, but often a deficiency can be detected. Based on the results, a dietary supplement substitution is recommended. For example, independent zinc substitution is not recommended if the value is measured above normal in the body. Remedy can be a personalized and individual food and energy recommendation.

When using this diagnostic, there are very few side effects with the heavy metal elimination, because the missing minerals and trace elements are replenished in advance.

The minerals and trace elements to be measured are: Calcium (Ca), Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na), Phosphorus (P), Sulfur (S), Iron (Fe), Iodine (I), Copper (Cu), Molybdenum (Mo), Selenium (Se), Zinc (Zn), Chromium (Cr), Cobalt (Co), Fluorine (F), Silicon (Si), Vanadium (V), Boron (B), Lithium (Li), Nickel (Ni), Germanium (Ge), Manganese (Mn).

  1.   According to the mathematical formula, the ratio of healthy minerals is given, which are generally counterparts and influence each other. These are: Potassium and sodium, calcium and magnesium, calcium and phosphorus or zinc and copper.
  2.  The metals to be measured are: Aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barium beryllium, bismuth, lead, cadmium, gadolinium, nickel, platinum, mercury, silver, thallium, thorium.

It is normal to have small amounts of toxic minerals in the body and they do not cause damage to your health. However, toxic minerals in high amounts can cause serious health issues.

  1.   Furthermore, the following vitamins are listed: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Folic acid (B9).

praxis lemm blood testing we do routinely

whole body blood testing

Nowadays the most accurate test is to make samples of saliva a few times a day. The information we get is telling us what happens with our stress hormones during the day.

METALIC BLOOD TESTING

Metabolic blood testing is one of the main or most blood testing next to the organ testing. Due to the Western diet, metabolic disorders are increasing rapidly and this includes: diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and glucose intolerance. Because of my own problem with glucose intolerance and me growing up with sweets I am very experienced in treating it with lifestyle changes like diet, activities and supplements, but if necessary, also medication.

Mitochondrien functional blood testing

The holistic concept of diagnosis and therapy for chronic illnesses is nowadays impossible without the knowledge about how mitochondria functions. This theory and practice  is based on the perception of illnesses being rooted in a lasting but also reversible dysfunction of cellular respiration and imbalance of the mitochondria. The therapy resulting from this observation is logical and efficient and also meanwhile scientifically proven. Unlike other cells, mitochondria do not possess any repair mechanisms, so that damaged mitochondria and their defective DNA are passed on to descendant mitochondria – a development of a new healthy and energy-rich metabolism is thus impossible. To break the cycle, i.e. to support healthy mitochondria and to remove mitochondria that are not optimally functioning, it is possible using the principle of high-altitude air therapy. Oxygen-deficient environment affects mitochondria. Not optimally functioning mitochondria with the high-altitude air therapy perish and the cell can regenerate and supply more energy.

This leads to increased cell activity in organs that consist increasingly of mitochondria, such as nerve or heart muscle cells, hormone glands or cells of the kidneys and liver.

We can treat: allergies, burn out syndrome, gastrointestinal diseases e.g. irritable colon, susceptibility to infections, metabolic syndrome, autoimmune disorder, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mel., low immunity and cancer.

genetic and epigenetic blood testing

Genetic and epigenetic  blood testing in the last few years is very fast growing laboratory diagnostics and I like using it because of giving a  good tool or advice on how to adapt lifestyle to genetics.  Likely, because of epigenetics we know that our genes are not our destiny and we can have healthy long life, even if we do not have good genes. Personally, I have genes that are not good to have, but thanks to my lifestyle I am able to deactivate them. I regularly check them and I am very pleased to be able to pass this experience and knowledge to my patients.

Especial vegan diagnostics

  • Red and white cells  blood account.
  • Protein electrophoresis.
  • Holotranscobalamin.
  • Homocysteine.
  • Vitamin D.
  • Ferritin.
  • Zink.
  • Crp.

food and chemical sensitivity testing

Food and Chemical Sensitivity testing may help uncover foods and other substances that trigger chronic inflammation and its related health issues such as gastrointestinal, metabolic disorders and others.

The  Lemm Test is designed to assess sensitivities to  many  food, chemical and environmental substances. These sensitivities are shown to be associated with both acute and chronic conditions.

Medical studies using the Lemm Test to guide diet have shown significant improvement of many common symptoms such as migraines, aching joints, fatigue, gastrointestinal disorders, and others have been linked to food sensitivity and chronic inflammation.

  • Gastrointestinal disorders, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), indigestion, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, bloating, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease.
  • Metabolic disorders, such as obesity, Type II diabetes, inability to lose weight.
  • Inflammatory conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, arthritis or asthma, autoimmune disorders.
  • Others, such as fatigue, headache, migraine, cognitive impairment.

sensitivity vs. allergy

An allergy is a reaction that triggers the release of antibodies that results in immediate symptom onset. A true food allergy causes an immune response that can affect multiple organs and; in some cases, be severe or even life threatening. Food sensitivity symptoms are delayed and are typically limited to digestive problems, but they can lead to chronic inflammatory health issues. The blood test can say if it is an allergy or sensitivity.

micronutrient testing

Nutrition is at the core of integrative health and SpectraCell’s Micronutrient Testing is the most advanced diagnostic tool available. Micronutrient testing measures how high micronutrients in the cells as well These tests allow nutritional assessment of your for a broad variety of clinical conditions, general wellness and the prevention of chronic diseases including arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular risk, diabetes, various immunological disorders and metabolic disorders.

hormone testing

SpectraCell Laboratories offers comprehensive male and female hormone panels that reveal the overall state of hormonal balance in a patient. Like nutrients, hormones influence all aspects of health and disease – mood, sleep, metabolism, immunity, heart health and appearance. An imbalance of one hormone can initiate a cascade of events that alters other hormones, so a comprehensive look at hormone status is key. Thyroid hormones directly regular every cell in our body as most basic functions like metabolism, emotions and thinking. We also test several proteins that affect thyroid function as well as antibodies to thyroid which can detect autoimmunity (when the immune system attacks healthy tissue and your levels of cortisol, the stress hormone).

vedapulse

What is VedaPulse?

Heart rate variability measurement is a scientifically recognized pulse analysis that uses the two nervous systems, sympathetic and parasympathetic, to make an assessment of the heartbeats and thus on the degree of healthy condition of the entire body.

The most frequent application of heart rate variability (HRV) is in high-performance athletes at sports universities, where HRV measurement is a basic diagnostic and a prerequisite for further participation in sports competitions.

The active sympathetic nervous system stands for “Fight or Flight”, a system that is active in stressful situations and hormonally drives the body to high active performance. On the other hand, its counterpart, the parasympathetic nervous system, stands for “Rest and Digest”, which shows high activity both during digestion and during the recovery and relaxation phases of the nervous system. A balanced relationship between the two systems is important for our health.  A system that provides the body with necessary mechanisms to adapt to different demands.

Based on the measurement, the relationship between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is graphically represented by different areas:

  • Health in %.
  • Stress factor in % (high stress, strong fatigue).
  • Adaptation level of the body to new situations.
  • Aging process compared to age group.

Normally, HRV is increased during relaxation, for example during meditation or in a rest period (the parasympathetic nervous system dominates). On the other hand, HRV decreases in situations characterized by stress and increased performance (the sympathetic nervous system dominates).

In general, balanced HRV is considered a sign of a healthy heart and is associated with psychological health, higher quality of life, and lower susceptibility to disease. However, due to our lifestyle, changing HRV levels occur on a daily basis, characterized by activity, stress, and relaxation. However, if chronically exposed to stress, the natural interplay of the two systems can be disrupted and the body can remain in a sympathetic dominated stress state, with low HRV and elevated stress hormone levels, even when the person is resting.

This represents a cause of many mental and physical illnesses, in addition to severe personal stress.
